Access to Alaska Native Collections
with Alaska State Museum and Sheldon Jackson Museum
Helena Schmitz and Brad Schmitz Jr. traveled to visit the Alaska State Museum in Juneau and the Sheldon Jackson Museum in Sitka. We spent our time looking at baskets, other weaved items, and harvesting items. Our sleeping culture takes a lot of effort to rebuild and to reawaken; thus, this trip to these museums have helped the beginning of this long process.
The CIRI Foundation is partnering with Museums Alaska to support the Access to Alaska Native Collections program. This program connects Alaska Native artists with museum collections by supporting research visits to storage areas in Alaska.
